Housekeeping: social media

On a non-SAR, non blog note, I’ve been using Facebook and Twitter a bit, mostly for the same thing. Every once in a while I come across an article on another site that’s related to what I write about, or sometimes to a specific article I’ve written. I usually post a link to Facebook and to Twitter. If you’re interested in these, you can click on the links to the right.

By following on Facebook, you have the opportunity to comment on the article. If I get 25 people “liking” the Facebook page I get to have my own page name, which would be nice. Of course you could always comment here, on the blog.

If you’d prefer, you can also follow in Twitter. The benefit of Twitter is that it also functions as a feed in that every time I post an article it will send an update. Of course this duplicates the functionality of RSS, except it channels it through a private company that gets to monitor and catalogue your reading habits. If you’re OK with tat, then follow the site on Twitter.

You can even do both Twitter and Facebook.

For example, I posted two things today.

The firsts is an article about a float plane crash and how the people involved activated their SPOT device – and how their expectations of immediate rescue were not fulfilled. Don’t worry, everybody lives.

The second is an article about the recent tragic NOLS bear attack in Alaska, and how that organization handles emergency alerting. It also details how the rescue took 9 hours.
